Hand Foot & Mouth Disease

This is a nasty little sickness that Teagan and Tate both got. To no surprise, Tate was the one that got it first (the little poop flinger). This is a virus carried by poop and usually only little kids 10 years and younger get it. It starts off with a fever and then they get sores in their mouth and on their hands and feet. They look like measles. It is really painful and all you can do is give them some Tylenol or Motrin for the pain while you wait it out. It is really, really contagious and that week my kids had been to two play groups and to a really big kid play area called Kid City. So, who knows who they got it from. What's even worse is that the virus lives on surfaces for up to 2 weeks and then it can live in their poop for 3-5 months! Ewww! I can't believe that Steffan didn't get it. We are really careful about changing poopy bums so that Steffan doesn't get infected with it too. It is like chicken pox and once you get it, you become immune to it again... HOWEVER, there are 5 different strains of it. So, your kids can get it up to 5 times still. 

Isn't that just the grossest disease?
