Congratulations Tate!

Tate has been doing so awesome this first week of potty training. I got him to "announce" his "biggest" (and I do mean BIG) achievement.

Just in case you're wondering, Duece = 2 ...and if you need further explanation than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. lol

When was the last time you ever saw toilet paper with printed pictures on them? I don't think I've seen anything like that since the 80's! Luckily Joanne, my fill-in, Aussie Mom, had some awesome toilet paper with puppies printed on it and she gave a couple of rolls to Tate for his new potty training week. He LOVES dogs and it made him feel really special to have special toilet paper for his first week of being on the potty.

We are so proud of Tate. He is really catching on fast and am even more excited that we don't have to buy diapers for him or Teagan anymore. Woo Hoo! I can't believe that Tate is going to be 3 years old in only 5 months and that Steffan will be going into nursery in 4 months. WHOA!

Some other updates...
We are going to be starting up home-school pre-school for Teagan and Tate on February 4th when everyone else starts the new year of school here. We will just be doing it at our home from 9 to noon, 5 days a week. It looks like we may have one to two more children here during that time as well but they will not be starting in with us right away. It will be good for the boys to interact with other kids during that time and have that structure each day. It will be good for ME to have the planned structure each day too. I'm really excited to start it. I order monthly and have a pre-school kit sent to me with all the curriculum and supplies in it to accommodate up to 3 children. The reason we decided to do this instead of sending the boys to school is because its so expensive. We are going to be applying for permanent residency soon so that we can get it paid for, but that costs about $3,500 to apply - - Therefore, it doesn't make sense to pay for schooling AND residency right now.

Tate is so dang smart. That is also why I'm glad we have decided to do pre-school at home, because I really think he is ready to go to preschool. He is already saying the alphabet and counting to thirteen. And I swear that Teagan can read sometimes because he can recognize enough letters and sounds to figure out words when you ask him to. However, I think he is still unsure of himself and when you ask him to do it he tells you he doesn't know even though I think he really does.

Steffan is just about walking and has tons more teeth. He is now trying to sound out some words and can understand a lot of what you tell him to do. He is definitely the "baby" of the family. I 'baby' him much more than I ever did the other two. I think it's because this is the longest I have gone with out being pregnant since we've been married.

Jeremy is going to the specialist for his stomach issues on Feb 18th. He is losing a lot of weight still and has now grown some really hard ball that sticks out on his stomach. No bueno! Keep your fingers crossed that something is not serious.

ANDDDD... I got a new calling today at church. I had felt this last month that I didn't have much longer being the teacher and got a call from the bishop last night asking if I could meet with him 20 minutes before church started today. They extended the calling 1st Counselor in the Relief Society Presidency and I accepted. I'm so excited to start my new calling and am excited to be put in the position to really get to know a lot more of the sisters in the ward although I am sad to say goodbye to my teaching calling because I really loved doing it. PLUS  - - - I get to shoot my first wedding in a couple of weeks. I'm so excited! Keep posted on my photo blog for updates.

TTFN!

Book of Mormon Style

I don't care who you are, this is FUNNY right here! Hopefully you know the original song that these return missionaries re-made into "Book of Mormon Style".

BEST Classic Macaroni Salad

I'm posting this on my blog because I get soooo bugged every time I try to find it on my Pinterest. They need a "search" for your own Pinterest boards. I can never re-find the stuff I pin. Is there a "search" for your own boards? Did I miss that somewhere?

At any rate, I made this as my side dish for Christmas Eve over at the Field home and Jeremy wants me to make it every five seconds right now. It IS pretty good! Probably not good for you, but yummy-yummy!

This Guy Stole My Heart

This is what I do now when Jeremy takes Teagan and Tate to mutual with him. I'm thinking of offering some mini-photo shoots for Valentine's Day, but am not sure if they celebrate it the same way here as in the US. Will have to find out. Didn't these turn out cute though?!

PS. To summarize my day: Tate pooped on the floor once, BUT in the potty twice. We are back on the potty training band wagon and it's exhausting, but looking forward to NO MORE diapers (with 2 of the 3). AND... Steffan took his first steps today and has taken up playing with any type of ball you give him. He will play with it for hours and throws it back and forth and chases after it.

My dad put this one together after I posted the last one. It makes me laugh every time I see it.

Steffan's 1st Birthday Clip

When Joey was here visiting he took this little video clip on his phone of Steffan sucking up the attention on his first birthday. He was just LOVING that all eyes were on him and he did a little show-off jig that was making us all laugh. Thanks for sending this to me Joe!

p.s. don't mind my big stack of laundry waiting to be folded (as usual) in the back.

December 2012 - The New Year 2013

After reading this post (if you even make it through to the end), you will see why I have been MIA for the last month. I don't know how we even fit it all in! AND... if you are looking to visit Australia, this is a good post to start thinking about what you want to do while you're here.

My sister has come and gone. It was the quickest month of my life! We are all so sad to see her go home and hope she will make it back out soon (whether for school/work, or just to see us). :) We had a packed month with her here along with the holidays. I was looking over our December calendar and here was Kiley's Australian "DID" list:
  • 1st thing on the list that I'm sure was "unforgettable" (sarcasm) was that we had our 6 month home inspection which I have been told is a government law here for renters. Everything inside and out has to be in tip-top condition and then one of the real estate agents from the property management company comes out and inspects everything. Kiley made it the week before inspection and was extremely helpful in cleaning and doing yard work. Maybe she can come back again when we have our inspection in June. ;)
  • Right away we had her come to our Relief Society Christmas party to meet the wonderful women in our ward whom I love so much!
  • The photos were taken and put together by a member of our RS.
    • Another ward Christmas party which was opened up with a solo performance by muahh singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"...
    • Kiley was most helpful for the 3 or 4 photo shoots I did during her stay! And, she got to see some of the cool parks here when we did them (such as Commonwealth Park).
    • Kiley helped me make lots of cookies for a cookie exchange party we went to (I love my Utah friend, Natalie, who held it). I don't think it is common to have those types of party's here. Especially because it's hot and not fun to cook when you have no a/c.
    • Kiley got to go visiting teaching with me and was able to chat with the wonderful ladies I get the pleasure of seeing regularly and even got a special gift from one of them who is from Papua New Guinea. She makes string bags and sells them at the market each week and made one for both Kiley and I. They are awesome! You can see a picture of Kiley's string bag in the Sydney Opera House pic's below.
    • AND - - - We had movie night just about EVERY night with popcorn. FUN! Some movies on our list...
      1. VAMPIRE DIARIES (a.k.a. "V.D." and not in the gross way) - We waited 3 months to watch the season while we waited for Kiley to come. We used to watch it every week together, so we waited and let the suspense build up. We had seven or eight episodes to watch and are patiently waiting the next one to come out 48 hours from now (but who's counting?)
      2. Modern Family = Hilarious!
      3. Big Bang Theory (I think Teagan is Sheldon!)
      4. Grease
      5. The Breakfast Club
      6. It's A Wonderful Life - 1st time for kiley to see it!
      7. Pitch Perfect - This one came on a little too often at our house over the month. Not to mention that I wasn't sure if Kiley had brought any other music on her phone besides the soundtrack to this movie for the entire month.
      8. Lots of other Christmas movies
      9. And lastly... Kiley was nice enough to stay home one night with the boys while Jeremy and I enjoyed a night out to see The Hobbit. (not sure if I followed the story line, but it was good enough to watch.)
    • Now to some of the more adventurous items - - - Cockington Green Gardens. Always a favorite of mine.
    • The Royal Australian Mint
    • Questacon
    • Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. This is where Kiley took our family photo for our Christmas card that never got mailed out (he he) and where we saw koala's, kangaroos, emu's, and wallaby's out walking around in the wild. It is really cool!
    • NASA Satellite Station. The largest and I believe the only one in the southern hemisphere. It is the satellite that received the first images of the last rover that went into space.
    • Black Mountain/Telstra Tower.
    • Jamberoo Waterpark = Coolest water park EVER!
    • Canberra International Zoo & Aquarium = 1st time Kiley has seen a real shark in person.
    • Bateman's Bay = 1st time HOLDING a jelly fish. (Yes, I held it from the top part and no one got stung)
    • John Knight Memorial Park
    • The Kangaroo Field
    • Mt. Ainslie Lookout
    • Australian War Memorial
    • Capital/ Parliament House
    • The Aboriginal Embassy (he he)
    • Canberra Center for Christmas in the City & New Year's - They had all sorts of fun stuff going on that was free for the kids: camel rides, trampoline's, bumper cars, you name it. We went to see the camels, and waited an hour in line after they told us we would FOR SURE make it on before they took a break, and when it was our turn to get on the camel they said, "Sorry, the camels have to go see someone right now." What the? Grrrrrr!!!
    • Teagan's Angry Bird Birthday Party: Listen to his wish and comment at the end. Then I added a video from Jeremy's phone that I found that Teagan made. lol He was video taping the cake that Jared and Hisa brought him.
    • Holidays, Holiday, Holidays
      • Cookies Galore = We baked and delivered over 300 cookies!!!
      • Buying/Wrapping presents because Tate couldn't leave anything alone for 3 seconds with out unwrapping it, meaning it all had to be done the night before.
      • Santa Came to our house! (see pics below - check back for video after I get Jer to figure out how to download it as a file so I can keep it)
      • Christmas Eve = Dinner at our Utah friend's family, the Field Home. Played Christmas games and ate lots of food, laughed and exhausted our children out for the night.
      • Christmas Day = Had the missionaries over for breakfast, went to a Christmas morning service at the chapel and then after resting and letting the kids play with all their toys we headed over to my adopted Australia mom's house (Joanne) and hung out with her family for Christmas games and dinner. She is the one that made Kiley the "Welcome Aussie" cake. I need to get pic's of her and her family. She is one of the most amazing people I've met!
    • Plenty of Costco Runs...
THEN... if that wasn't enough we used our WorldMark Timeshare for the last few days of  her stay to enjoy Sydney and all of the summer festivities happening there right now. We LOVE our timeshare there. It is only a couple blocks away from Darling Harbour and once we get there we never have to drive. We can walk everywhere we need to go. Kiley and I stayed up really late the night before and made food for the whole week so that we didn't have to buy food for every meal because it's too expensive! You already have to pay $30-$40/day to park. So, making food is the way to go if you have a kitchen when you get there.
    • Day 1:
      • Detour to IFly tree top walk on the way to Sydney
    • Day 2:
      • Maddam Tussauds Wax Museum
      • Water taxi over to P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney (which is actually the Taronga Zoo)
      • Water taxi over to the Sydney Opera House for the walk through tour
      • Watched Finding Nemo back at the hotel room! P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney!
    • Day 3:
      • Darling Harbour Aquarium
      • Sydney Wild Life Park
      • Sydney Tower Eye
        • As we were walking to the Sydney Tower Eye, there was an 'Abbie' on the street playing his didgeridoo. Tate got really into it and almost fell over a couple times. I wish I would've gotten a shot of all the people that were watching him because they were all pointing and laughing at how cute he was.

      • Day 4:
        • Last Day souvenir shopping and off to the airport
I'm so glad that Kiley got to come stay with us. There is no way we could have fit this trip in with any time less than the month she was here. I feel like we had some good sister bonding and got to know each other better. GOOD TIMES KI!

And last, here are some highlight pic's of Kiley's visit (in no particular order):

Canberra International Zoo & Aquarium
This was the best part of the zoo! There is a section you can go in and pet the kangaroos and wallaby's and there are emu's walking around. Well these two creepy emu's kept walking right by us and it started to freak us out a little. One emu wouldn't leave Tate alone and he was screaming and crying and it even pecked at his head (I don't think it actually touched him though)! We were laughing so hard and I was searching for my camera and Tate had this look of abandonment on his face when I didn't help him. I felt bad because he was terrified but I couldn't pass up the moment. He took cover in the stroller as you can see.

Teagan's 4th Birthday Party
Teagan is WAY into Angry Birds. I'm regretting an Angry Birds Family Home Evening I did previously because Teagan is HOOKED! We have had to start limiting the time on the Ipad now so that he isn't a gamer junkie at the age of 4. Naturally he wanted an Angry Birds birthday. I was so dang busy keeping up with the birthday party that I didn't really get any pictures. Everything we have was taken on Jeremy's phone. Luckily we have one little video of the birthday boy blowing out his candles. Listen to what he says he wishes for. It makes me smile. :) ...and yes, I painted the Angry Bird mural in the back ground - Not too shabby for some paints on a box.

I wanted to do something he will never be able to do in Utah for his birthday which is have a water fight outside in December. So, that is what we did. We had games, and face painting, made pizza, pigs in a blanket along with Australian Ferry Bread, popcorn, Cheezels, and the cutest cupcake/cake's in an ice cream cone with an Angry Bird marshmallow. We blew up millions of balloons to put on the ceiling, streamers hanging everywhere and blew up 2 swimming pools and 4 Angry Birds inner tubes (which made us blue in the face by the time we were done). Teagan said it was his most favorite birthday EVER and he had tons of fun!

Sydney Opera House

Bateman's Bay
Look how cool this is. We saw a bunch of blue bottle jelly fish (also known as Portuguese Man-of-War)  and picked them up with the boys sand castle toys. We were SOOOOO lucky that no one got stung by them because they were all over the place.

Maddam Taussad's Wax Museum
Darling Harbor, Sydney
Yes, we are all a little nutso!

IFLY

Black Mountain/ Telstra Tower
Canberra, ACT

Sydney Wildlife Park
Darling Harbor
Koalas and Crocodiles, Oh My!

Here is a little video clip of the crocodile. I personally think the croc is fascinating in person.

And here is a video of a kookaburra. It let us get so close to it, we could've touched it. I was surprised it didn't try and fly away, but it didn't move at all. It's funny... Jeremy keeps telling the bird to sing and Teagan must think that he is asking HIM to do it. So, Teagan is quietly singing in the background. lol
NASA Satellite Station
NSW

John Knight Memorial Park
Canberra, ACT
Spent a nice, relaxing day with a picnic and feeding the ducks at the JKM park.

Australian Parliament Building
Aboriginal Embassy = trailer house and tents pitched out in the front with a white board that said they were closed for the day.

Kangaroo Field

Christmas Day
Daddy & Tate drawing on each other with the new markers they got to color their new castle.
Pic of Santa in our living room and the toys he left!

This is something we tried to do but they were closed for the holidays. I REALLY, REALLY want to go to the Blue Mountains soon (Click the Blue Mountains link). I've seen the Blue Mountains in tons of National Geographic stuff and it is amazing and beautiful.

We also really wanted to go to the Sydney Temple but didn't have time to.

If you made it through this far, I DARE you to fit this many activities in three weeks instead of four! :)

Who's Cute?

I got this photo of Tate in my email today from Jared. I think Tate is the cutest 2 year old I know.

Short Liner Posts

One of the ladies in our ward, whom I LOVE, was so nice to make my sister this wonderful banana cake which was soooo yummy! It had all of the Aussie sayings on it.
"Barbie"
"Struth" {means: ah crap!}
"Maaaate"
"Fair Dinkum" {means: yeah, sure}
"Crikey"
"Aussi - Oi Oi Oi" - Remember the song from AC/DC (TNT- Oi Oi Oi)? They are from Australia.
Look how gross this is. I was IN my house and took a pic of all these flying bugs that were EVERYWHERE in our back yard one morning... like they just hatched or something. There were so many of them that it showed up in a picture. I don't know what they were... but yuck! I can't go outside right now to dry our clothes on the line. They freak me out.

Tate "helping" with yard work.

Me & Stef-man on top of the black mountain tower.

The "boys" on top of Black Mountain/Telstra Tower.

There is a field over by Costco here in Canberra that you can go see the 'roos' at dusk when they come out. Joey & the Roos.

Me in my PJ's with Jer & Stef.

Jared & Hisa with Steffan for his birthday.

Making dino-balls with the boys to play with. {cotton balls, flour, water & food coloring/baked}

This little ham gets into EVERYTHING right now. Look how happy he was when I found him.

Here are some pics of our house. I had to hurry and take them. Our house was clean and 'manicured' for our 6 month inspection which is government law here to inspect ALL rentals to make sure they are in tip top shape. It's hard to clean sooo much and keep it that way until they get there when you have kids!

We decorated gingerbread houses (which were made from scratch) the day Kiley got here{i was so proud of myself}... Day 1: Make gingerbread and bake. Day 2: Put houses together. Day 3: Decorate - - - However, the swearing and anger that came with trying to glue the houses together made the activity not fun for anyone. Next time I will have to purchase the already "sized to fit" home pieces. And I thought I was sooo precise with the sizes too. :( The decorating part was fun. I'm glad I took a picture of the houses before they were slowly destroyed {secretly} by the boys over the next few days. There is not much candy left on them now.

We took Kiley to the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve yesterday and there were some really cool wallaby's that were just coming up to us. Turns out the LOVE bananas. :)

It was nice to have Kiley there to take a family pic with a "small wallaby" in the background. Now if I can only get them printed and handed to people BEFORE Christmas... otherwise I will be changing it to say, "Happy New Year 2013". :)

We are having so much fun with Kiley here. I don't want her to go home. If we can only talk her into coming to school here... :)

Updates and Updates

We have been soooooo busy and have all been SOOOOOO sick! {ear infections, coughs, sore throats, fevers, heat rash, roseola, vomiting... you name it!} I've never been sick so often in my life until we moved here. Is it because we are in a new country?

The first week of November, Jeremy was gone in Sydney all week for a training at work. The boys and I drove up there and picked him up on Friday and stayed the night in the temple accommodations since it was the Young Men temple trip that weekend and Jeremy was going to go anyway to do baptisms. We also got invited to a dear friend's sealing later that day in which I was also asked to take photos (and felt very honored to do this as it has been a 'journey' to make the 'temple goal' for their family). It was so awesome to be a part of that!

A couple of days after that, Jeremy's friend Joey flew in to visit us {and just in time to get totally sick from all of us}. I felt so bad that we weren't feeling well while he was here and even worse that he brought our sickness home with him. There's nothing like the Australian Flu to bring home as a souvenir. Hopefully we hankered (sp?) up all of the energy we could muster to provide a fun time during his 10 days. It was really, really nice to have him here and I even took the time to actually find the Southern Cross constellation with Joey while he was here. {It only took us an hour: ahem} If you know Joey, being sick doesn't slow him down. One day he said he was going on a walk to see the neighborhood and I looked outside 10 minutes later to see him mowing our lawn and pulling our weeds. I had even mentioned to Jeremy that we needed to get that done before he came, otherwise he'd go out and do it for us and I was right! ha ha Our house looked like the ShangriLa by the time Joey left. He spent more time at our "Home Depot" called "Bunnings" here and got my husband to come home with all sorts of power tools and yard tools. I guess that's what Jeremy's gets for having a General Contractor as a best friend.

Isn't this picture awesome! It's up at Black Mountain Tower.

Jeremy is on the wait list to see a specialist for his stomach issues I mentioned in a previous post.
Steffan is still having a bit of tummy issues himself. I hope he grows out of it. But I will say that it's getting better! We celebrated Steffan's 1st birthday (sick)... I mean... with Joey and Thanksgiving dinner (as good as I could throw together with a fever that day) and pumpkin pie instead of a traditional birthday cake, which Steffan LOVED {thanks to my sis and mother in law for sending canned pumpking along with Joey}. Hisa and Jared came over and made up for the lack of cake and brought over a cake (and it was gooood).

As for me, I thought I was going to get away with not getting too sick until this last week, it was a downward spiral. On top of Jeremy not feeling well either, I had to go to church and speak in sacrament again and teach my lesson in Relief Society the same day. I actually love doing stuff like that and I will never drop something like that on someone else at the last moment, because I'm just not like that and don't have it in me to do that to someone else no matter what shape I'm in. Also, I have just been taking photos and editing away. Jeremy got me my early Christmas present on it's way (thank goodness for friends that work at Adobe)... Photoshop and Lightroom! Woo hoo! I can't wait to start editing with Lightroom. I took a Photoshop class awhile back with my dad, so hopefully I will be able to pick it back up.

Tate hasn't stopped talking or hurting himself. Joey learned really fast why we didn't fuss much when Tate hurt himself... It's because he hurts himself every 3 seconds. It's like he never learns the first, second or third time of doing something. I don't get it.

Look at this little ham. Tate wanted his picture taken with a cape on while I was taking pictures for Teagan's 4th birthday stuff.

Teagan is about to turn FOUR! We are in contact with people to try and enroll him in a private school here next year (because it is so much cheaper than going to public school when you are not a resident here). He is LOVING Angry Birds right now. We had an Angry Birds Family Home Evening one night to talk about how to deal with our "anger" and other emotions and he has been obsessed with it ever since. He wants his birthday party to be "Angry Birds". Honey Lona sent him an Angry Birds shirt recently and I thought it'd be cute to do a photo shoot with it for his birthday invitation... but, I couldn't get that kid to smile. I said, "Ok, SMILE Teagan! Pretend like you're having fun!" Teagan looked at me and said, "But I'm NOT having fun Mom." Uhh... ok. Needless to say, the photos didn't turn out as good as Steffan's 1st birthday pics.

I'm thinking of using this one for his invite because it is the most decent one with Angry Birds on it.

Then Teagan didn't want to wear his Angry Bird shirt, he wanted to wear his Superman cape and undies. :) ...and doesn't he look 'so happy'?
